    We are currently seeking an Embedded Real-Time Platforms Software Engineer to join our software and avionics group, which builds our core fly-by-wire-systems. You will help build the world’s best real-time avionics software platform. You will enable a small group of engineers to quickly develop high-quality, well-tested software, for a variety of fly-by-wire avionics platforms.

    Responsibilities:

          • Develop high-quality embedded platform code, including bootloaders, device drivers, and communication protocol stacks.
          • Support real-time operating system and toolchain integration.
          • Enhance embedded build scripts, development environment and maintain linker scripts.
          • Bringing-up new hardware platforms and controllers.
          • Write requirements, test specifications, and tests (unit tests through full integration tests).

    Required:

          • BS or MS in CS or EE or equivalent, with 3+ years of relevant experience.
          • Proficiency in developing in C on embedded systems.
          • Demonstrated ability to develop production embedded systems.
          • Strong understanding of RTOS concepts and concurrent software design.
          • Experience using highly automated software development processes and modern tools (git, JIRA, continuous integration, etc.).

    Responsibilities:

          • Architect and implement the core C++ application used to perform hardware-in-the-loop testing of flight critical software.
          • Work closely with the development team to gather requirements and build a tool that can support hundreds of hours of real-time hardware-in-the-loop tests each week
          • Develop tested, high quality and reliable software

    Required:

          • BS/MS/PhD in CS or EE or equivalent, with 3+ years of relevant experience
          • Proficiency in C and C++11 or later
          • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
          • Experience with real-time Linux and writing performance code
          • Experience with highly automated software development processes and modern tools (git, JIRA, continuous integration, etc.)

    We are currently looking for a Systems Safety Engineer. The goal of System Safety is to accurately assess risk to inform decision-making. In support of the airworthiness effort, you will work alongside design engineers across all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, software, controls, systems, aerodynamics, flight test, manufacturing) and will identify hazards associated with the functions of the aircraft and support systems. You will utilize qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods to determine the likelihood and severity of hazard. You will also flow down reliability and safety derived requirements to design engineering and flight test to appropriately mitigate risks.

    Required:

          • B.S. in Engineering, and at least two years of experience in systems engineering or certification
          • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
          • Familiarity with conducting Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Common Cause Analysis (CCA) or similar techniques
          • Familiarity with typical Reliability Engineering reports (e.g. Failure Modes Effects Analysis)
          • Familiarity with requirements management tools 

    Desired:

          • Prior experience applying MIL-STD-882E and/or SAE ARP 4761 System Safety Assessment techniques 
          • Previous design and/or flight test experience
          • Experience with an aircraft development program from conceptual design through certification

  • Systems Test Engineer

    We are seeking a Systems Test Engineer to join our Subsystems Group. We design, analyze, manufacture and test avionics, electric motors, power electronics, batteries and other subsystems for unconventional aircraft.  The candidate will participate in system concept development through delivery of hardware to aircraft integration, and will be responsible for developing all test plans and procedure to validate performance.  These tests would include both acceptance testing of every unit, as well as qualification testing to validate the design in a variety of environmental conditions.

    Responsibilities:

          • Design, develop, and validate environmental test procedures
          • Work with external and in-house test labs to lead and/or conduct testing activities
          • Record & analyze data collected during testing, document results and issues found
          • Work with responsible engineers to fix problems
          • Design and integrate test fixtures, test setups, data acquisition systems, etc.

    Required:

          • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering degree
          • Minimum four years of experience in hardware development or testing
          • Familiarity with aerospace development best practices and standards
          • Experience writing and executing test procedures for design validation and qualification
          • Extensive experience in operating data acquisition systems for data collection of thermocouples, accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure sensors, load cells, LVDT, etc.
          • Ability to post process and analyze data to validate system performance
          • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement
          • Experience working with various test lab environments and dealing with outside vendors
          • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
          • Work in a team-based environment to achieve common goals
          • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    Desired:

          • Experience with Matlab and/or Python
          • Familiarity with testing per RTCA DO-160
          • Experience with FARs relevant to general aviation
