    We are seeking an Aerodynamics Engineer to support design, development, and testing of a small aircraft. The position involves generating aerodynamic analysis at various levels of fidelity, from vortex lattice methods to Navier-Stokes solutions, fitting models to those results and comparing them with flight test data. The aerodynamics group is responsible for supporting airframe design, propeller design, performance and stability analysis, handling qualities analysis and flight testing.

    Required:

          • B.S. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent degree) with 5 or more years of academic or industry experience.

    Desired:

          • Experience with aerodynamic database development
          • Experience with flight testing and corresponding data post-processing
          • Experience with potential flow methods
          • Experience with CFD analysis and gridding
          • Familiar with airplane dynamics and airplane performance analysis

Our group is involved in physical modeling, controls and estimation, control law development with test pilots in simulated environments, software development, flight testing of small scale unmanned airplanes, supporting manned flight testing … and whatever else is needed to make things fly.

    Required:

          • B.S. or M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science with at least 3 years of experience

    We are currently seeking an experienced electrical engineer to serve the team as a subject matter expert on electrical systems. This person will work closely with various team members, and will own hardware development of systems from inception to deployment. They will be comfortable with the design, assembly, and testing of power electronics (motor controllers, battery management systems, charger), with an emphasis on redundancy, reliability and fault tolerance. Oversight of logic boards for various systems includes layout, ordering, and population, utilizing in- and out-of-house resources. Planning for all systems will include the sourcing and selection of components. Additionally, they will train technicians during initial integration into vehicles, and support embedded software, as needed.

    Required:

          • B.S. in Electrical Engineering with five or more years of applicable experience
          • Experience with design and implementation of advanced electronics, with an emphasis on switch-mode power electronics
          • Experience with integration and troubleshooting, including EMI and debugging
          • Comfortable with all aspects of electronics design including:

  • Mechanical Engineer - Recovery Systems

    We are seeking an experienced engineer to own development of independent safety and recovery systems, including the conceptualization, development, manufacturing, and testing. They will be comfortable at all levels of development of systems which might have complex dynamic behavior, including the construction of simulations, prototype fabrication, materials testing and evaluation, ignition and triggering mechanisms, deployment criteria, and acceptance criteria in reference to safe limitations on the human body. We are not attempting to re-develop the same devices that have been developed in the past so are seeking applicants from a range of backgrounds including aerospace decelerators and parachutes, vehicle crash safety engineering, rapid mechanical prototyping, product development, and so on.

    The successful applicant will enjoy working at a small, flat, fast paced team of subject matter experts and should be comfortable operating with broad responsibility.

    Responsibilities:

          • Conceptualize, develop, manufacture and test independent recovery systems
          • Work with external vendors to build recovery system prototypes
          • Design, plan, and orchestrate recovery system tests
          • Advise and participate in flight vehicle design so as to maximize safety in the case of fault conditions and use of the recovery system

    Required:

          • B.S. in an applicable engineering discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace) and five years of applicable experience
          • 1000 hours or more on a major CAD package (e.g. Solidworks, NX, Catia)
          • Experience working with and managing external suppliers
          • Hands on prototyping and assembly experience with a broad range of processes and materials
          • Aerodynamic device design and test. This experience need not be aerospace or recovery system related
          • Strong skill level in load analysis in both static and dynamic conditions
          • Experience in the design and execution of product tests

    Desired:

          • Specific experience with deployable unconventional high drag devices
          • Experience with high performance textiles, CNC machining
          • Background with flying, gliding, hang gliding, skydiving, paragliding, RC flying, or any other activity that yields first hand experience with flying.
          • Wind tunnel and/or flight test experience
